Model answer (band 8 level)
The line graph illustrates how many battery electric and plug-in hybrid cars were registered in Calderia between 2016 and 2024, while the table compares the number of public charging points of three types at the beginning and end of that period.
Overall, both kinds of electric car became far more common, and battery electric models overtook hybrids to become the dominant type. Over the same eight years, the charging network expanded more than eightfold, with fast and ultra-fast chargers making up a much larger share of the total by 2024.
In 2016, plug-in hybrids outnumbered battery electric cars by 30,000 to 12,000. Growth in battery electric cars then accelerated: their number overtook that of hybrids at some point between 2020 and 2022 and reached 260,000 by 2024, more than twenty times the 2016 figure. Hybrids also grew, but far more modestly, rising more than threefold to 110,000.
Turning to the table, the total number of public charging points rose from 2,000 to 17,000. Standard chargers remained the largest category, increasing from 1,800 to 9,500, but the most striking growth was in fast chargers, which increased more than thirtyfold, from 200 to 6,200. Ultra-fast points, which did not exist in 2016, numbered 1,300 by 2024. Fast and ultra-fast chargers together therefore accounted for about 44% of all points at the end of the period, compared with just 10% at the start.
